Psychological Services
We understand that making the first call to a psychologist can be a daunting prospect. Please feel free to call us for an initial telephone chat. We are happy to talk through any queries you may have. It is also a good opportunity for you to assess whether we are a fit for you. It is very important that you feel comfortable with your choice of psychologist and we would be pleased to refer you on to another psychologist in our network whenever appropriate.
The focus of our
clinical psychology practice is the treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders for
adults and
children as well career and life transitions. For adults, matters addressed include changes in career and life stages, general worry, anxiety and phobias that interfere with well-being, grief, loss, couples therapy, illness, job loss, general life satisfaction and well-being management. For children, a robust program based on the Macquarie University Cool Kids program is used to treat a range of childhood anxieties, worrying and bullying. Parents play an active part in the treatment process. Positive psychology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) approaches are supplemented with other treatment protocols as required.

We adopt an empirically based, results oriented approach to psychological services seeking to minimise the number of sessions required while still maintaining positive treatment outcomes. The initial session usually takes 1.5 hours. Following that, sessions are 50 minutes long. We may recommend use of one or more assessment measures for pre-and post comparisons and treatment information.

Research indicates that it is possible to achieve similar outcomes for therapy conducted via internet modalities, (such as Skype or FaceTime), as to face-to face therapy. These outcomes are achievable for issues such as general anxiety, social phobia, minor depression and low mood. If you are interested in having sessions via Skype due to your schedule or your location, this can be done successfully. We will conduct a web-based assessment in the first instance to ensure that internet based treatment is suitable for your circumstance.
Please note that internet based service provision is currently not eligible for the medicare rebate, however you may be able to claim some rebate from your health fund.
